Well, the nominations are in for the 2010 Academy Awards, to you and me: The Oscars. Seen by many as the highest honour that can be bestowed in the movie industry was first held in 1929. This year there is just one big story, one that could be a plot of a Hollywood movie itself.
Avatar, the highest grossing motion picture of all time, is up against tenseĀ Iraq drama the Hurt Locker for the coveted Best Picture prize. The twist in this tale? The two directors, James ‘Titanic’ Cameron and Kathryn ‘European Gigolo’ Bigalow used to be married.
Also in the running are Quentin Tarantino’s ultra-violent WWII fantasy Inglorious Basterds, controversial sci-fi movie District-9 and misery laden Precious. In addition to these 5 other films are in the running for the prize, but all eyes are focused on James and Kathryn.
The awards ceremony itself will be held on Sunday March 7th at the historic Kodak theatre in Hollywood. The budget for the event is also historic, with a record amount being spent on food, drink and flowers for the guests. The host for this year will be Alec Baldwin.
